In some European countries, air conditioner owners can be fined if condensate from the outdoor unit drips onto the sidewalk, the facade of a building, or falls on passersby. In Ukraine, it was also proposed to introduce such liability, but the relevant law never came into force.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is what the “Sudovo-Yurydichna Gazeta” writes<\/a> about.<\/p>\n

Previously, the Verkhovna Rada registered draft law No. 4619, which provided for administrative liability for improper installation of air conditioners.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The document proposed fining owners if condensate dripped onto building facades, sidewalks, roadways, or fell on people. The plan was to set a fine of 1,700 hryvnias for the first violation, and 3,400 hryvnias for a repeat violation within a year.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

However, the parliament did not pass this bill, and it was later withdrawn from consideration. Therefore, currently in Ukraine there are no separate fines for condensate draining from air conditioners.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

However, such requirements are already in place in a number of European countries. In particular, in Romania, the law prohibits the discharge of condensate from outdoor air conditioner units onto sidewalks or roadways. Owners must arrange the water drainage system in such a way that it does not create inconvenience for pedestrians and does not damage the city’s infrastructure.<\/p>\n

For violation of landscaping rules, local authorities can impose a fine of up to 2,000 Romanian lei, which is approximately 20,000 hryvnias.<\/p>\n
