In June, the occupiers were able to capture only about 30 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory.

This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

According to analysts’ estimates, during June 2026, Russian troops captured or advanced into the territory of Ukraine with a total area of about 30.42 sq. km. On average, their rate of advance was only 1.01 sq. km per day.

For comparison, in June 2025, the Russian army occupied 481.25 sq. km of Ukrainian territory and advanced an average of 16.04 sq. km per day. Thus, over the year, the speed of the invaders’ advance decreased by approximately 16 times.

Analysts point out that Russia has not demonstrated rapid territorial gains for over a year. Even the pace of advance recorded last year was assessed by them as a slow, gradual offensive, rather than a large-scale breakthrough.

Now the situation for the Russian army has worsened even further. According to ISW, the occupiers have set a new anti-record for the speed of the offensive and have actually switched to the so-called “step-by-step” advance.

Experts explain that the Russian command does not have enough forces to conduct deep offensive operations. Because of this, troops are advancing only in small areas – hundreds of meters or a few kilometers.

ISW believes that this situation creates additional opportunities for the Ukrainian Defense Forces. In particular, the Ukrainian military can more effectively destroy enemy personnel and equipment, as well as prepare new counteroffensive actions.

Recall that the pace of advance of Russian troops in Ukraine has continued to decline since November 2025, and for each square kilometer of territory captured, the occupiers are currently losing almost 1,300 soldiers.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

The pace of the Russian army’s offensive at the front has fallen by about 16 times over the past year.
