The company plans to deploy the first squadron off the coast of Ukraine in the spring of 2027 after receiving certification from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine .

BlueShadow founder and CEO Charles Maher said that the Blue Dragon system was created to protect the coastal regions of Ukraine, primarily Odessa, which is regularly attacked by Russian “Shaheeds” from the sea, where air defense capabilities are limited.

According to him, the system consists of two components. The first is a C4ISR technology platform that integrates a swarm of unmanned vessels with the Delta, Nettle, and SkyMap control systems. The second is the Blue Shadow Edge autonomy module, which allows the boats to operate as a single squadron, exchange information, and independently determine which vessels should enter combat.

Each boat will have modular equipment , which may include quadcopter interceptors, missiles, machine guns, and in the future – electronic warfare equipment. The system is designed to intercept air targets at a distance of 10-20 kilometers from the coast.

“Our technology is designed to protect people in the coastal regions of Ukraine – primarily Odessa, which regularly suffers from attacks by the Shahids from the sea, where air defense capabilities are limited,” said Charles Maher.

According to the company’s head, the system’s software has virtually no limitations on the number of targets it can process. At the same time, the effectiveness of the complex will depend on the number of boats and the interception equipment installed on them. Maher also noted that the system is designed taking into account possible enemy attacks. Even if one of the boats is lost, the rest will continue to perform the combat mission.

“If we lose one ship, the remaining ships continue to carry out the mission on their own, which ensures battlefield sustainability over time,” said Charles Maher.

BlueShadow plans to deploy a system of 12 drones in a squadron. About 10 boats will be at sea at any one time, while two more will undergo maintenance. The company estimates that five operators on shore will be enough to manage such a squadron.

The system is currently in the development phase. The company is conducting internal beta testing of the technology platform and expects to launch the full Blue Shadow Edge module within the next one to two months.

BlueShadow estimates the cost of the first squadron at around €10-12 million . This includes the unmanned vessels, the shore-based command center, integration into the national defense platform, and spare parts for maintenance.

By the way, the Ukrainian company Contra Drone presented a comprehensive system for countering enemy UAVs, which combines 20 defense solutions.
