Poland will not make new financial commitments to Ukraine during the NATO summit to be held in Ankara on July 7-8. At the same time, Warsaw will continue to raise the issue of the need for further support for Ukraine in the war with Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated during a press conference in Warsaw that the Polish government had informed President Karol Nawrocki, who will represent the country at the NATO summit, of the need to refrain from new declarations regarding financial support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n

According to Tusk, the upcoming Alliance summit should complete the process of strengthening the responsibility of European states, including Poland, for their own security, defense readiness, and financing of defense capabilities, primarily in the field of conventional defense.<\/p>\n

“Poland is one of the best examples for NATO,” said Donald Tusk.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the head of the Polish government emphasized that Warsaw will continue to support Ukraine.<\/p>\n

“However, I appeal to the entire delegation to be cautious with any declarations about new financial support from Poland. But not because I believe that Ukraine does not need financial assistance. I believe that Poland has extremely large obligations to protect the entire eastern border of the European Union, and everyone should take this into account,” said Donald Tusk.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister added that Ukraine is at war with Russia, while Poland in peacetime bears the main burden of protecting the eastern border of the European Union from threats from the east, and therefore deserves special treatment.<\/p>\n

The summit of NATO leaders will be held in Ankara on July 7-8. Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that one of the main topics of the meeting will be continued support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n

We will remind you that Poland has paused the transfer of MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine<\/a> , which were planned to be transferred as part of the agreements on the exchange for Ukrainian drone technology. Now these aircraft will be gradually decommissioned.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Poland will not support Ukraine’s accession to the European Union<\/a> unless Kyiv reconsiders its approach to honoring OUN and UPA figures, in particular Stepan Bandera.<\/p>\n
