The headquarters of the Strategic Command of the country’s Armed Forces, nicknamed the “Octagon” due to its characteristic octagonal shape, was opened in the New Administrative Capital of Egypt.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Defense Minister Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Ahmed Khalifa and other officials.<\/p>\n

President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi said the new headquarters would be a symbol of the country’s strength and stability.<\/p>\n

“This headquarters will be a monument to the great people of Egypt, embodying Egypt’s role as a force for peace and stability, a nation capable of facing challenges and achieving its aspirations through the unity of its noble people and its valiant armed forces,” the president said.<\/p>\n

The new complex will become the country’s strategic command center and headquarters of the Ministry of Defense and the General Command of the Egyptian Armed Forces.<\/p>\n

The complex’s total area exceeds 9,000 hectares, with a built-up area of over 4.6 million square meters. In this respect, the Octagon significantly exceeds the Pentagon’s approximately 600,000 square meters.<\/p>\n

The architectural complex consists of eight octagonal buildings, designed in a style inspired by ancient Egyptian architecture. They will house the main headquarters and command centers of the various branches of the armed forces. The central command buildings are connected to each other and to other buildings by internal passages, which should ensure rapid information exchange and improve the efficiency of troop command and control.<\/p>\n

According to Nasr Salem, former head of Egypt’s military intelligence, the complex is equipped with modern defense systems against air and missile strikes, cyberattacks, electronic warfare, communications interception, and espionage. <\/p>\n
