The State Bureau of Investigation in its current form must be destroyed, which is why the bureau’s director, Sukhachev, fears reform.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Alexei Sukhochev is against reforming the State Bureau of Investigation. According to him, reforming the State Bureau of Investigation in the proposed form could lead to the destruction of the institution,” he noted.<\/p>\n

“And that’s precisely why the State Bureau of Investigation must be reformed. And in a way that Mr. Sukhachev no longer likes. The destruction of the ‘institution’ headed by Mr. Sukhachev in its current form (in reality, a nest of lawlessness, corruption, and politically motivated prosecutions) is urgently needed for Ukraine. It’s essential for strengthening the rule of law,” the lawyer noted.<\/p>\n

Recently, State Bureau of Investigation Director Alexey Sukhachev stated that the initiative to reform the bureau is tantamount to destruction. “Since December of last year, we’ve begun to sense a powerful campaign against the existence of the State Bureau of Investigation in its current format. Some defendants in our criminal cases don’t particularly like our activities, and they’re using their media outlets to shape opinions about the need to reform the bureau,” Sukhachev said.<\/p>\n

As reported, the Pechersky District Court banned Sledstvo.Info and the Anti-Corruption Action Center from publishing information regarding their investigation into the property of the State Bureau of Investigation’s director’s brother. The petition was filed with the court on Friday, July 3, and Judge Serhiy Vovk granted it on Monday morning. The court’s ruling states that the State Bureau of Investigation’s director’s brother did not grant permission to disclose information about his 143 properties.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, as part of its investigation into a large-scale corruption scheme embezzling funds in the energy sector, the NABU released audio recordings \u2013 the so-called Mindich tapes. During conversations between the defendants, the aliases “Vokzal” and “Lesha” were discussed. NABU suspects that “Vokzal” may refer to the State Bureau of Investigation, whose office is located on Petliury Street near Kyiv’s Central Railway Station, and “Lesha” may be the head of the SBI, Oleksiy Sukhachev. It was also established that the defendants did indeed visit the administrative building of the SBI’s central office and communicate with one of the bureau’s employees.<\/p>\n
