Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a series of talks with leaders of Italy, the European Council, South Korea, and American lawmakers on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara. The main topics of the meetings were strengthening Ukrainian air defense, sanctions pressure on Russia, and Ukraine’s further advancement towards the EU.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The head of state announced<\/a> this on Telegram.<\/p>\n

During a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloni, the president informed her about the security situation in Ukraine and emphasized that Russia continues to strike Ukrainian cities.<\/p>\n

“Russia does not stop shelling our cities and communities. Today there were ballistic strikes again, and attack drones were also launched,” Zelenskyy noted.<\/p>\n

According to him, the parties also discussed the prospects for joint work on anti-ballistic defense systems.<\/p>\n

“We discussed the prospects for joint work in Europe on anti-ballistics to add protection to everyone – both Ukraine and every country,” the president said.<\/p>\n

Zelensky held a separate meeting with European Council President Antonio Costa. According to the head of state, the interlocutors discussed the opening of the remaining five negotiation clusters<\/strong> on Ukraine’s path to EU membership.<\/p>\n

“We are fulfilling all our obligations regarding accession to the European Union. And it would be fair if we received clear signals of support from the EU in response,” the president emphasized.<\/p>\n

Zelensky also met with a bicameral, bipartisan delegation from the U.S. Congress. He briefed American lawmakers on the shortage of Patriot interceptor missiles and stressed that strengthening air defense remains one of Ukraine’s top priorities.<\/p>\n

In addition, the parties discussed a bill to strengthen sanctions<\/strong> against Russia. According to the president, further pressure on the aggressor country could help bring peace closer.<\/p>\n

As part of the summit, Zelensky also held his first meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myeon and thanked Seoul for its decision to allocate $100 million for a comprehensive support package for Ukraine<\/strong> .<\/p>\n

“We are interested in productive relations with South Korea, and today we talked about what is needed for both of our countries,” the head of state noted.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, one of the NATO countries has ordered thousands of German-made artillery shells, which will later be transferred to Ukraine as part of military assistance.<\/a><\/p>\n

As reported, Dutch Prime Minister Rob Yetten and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of defense technologies at the NATO summit.<\/a><\/p>\n

In addition, Canada will provide Ukraine with a new military assistance package worth $900 million<\/a> , which will include air defense systems, military equipment, and ammunition.<\/p>\n
