President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Ukraine and its international partners will soon meet in France to discuss the Freya project, an initiative to develop a next-generation air defense system designed as a more affordable alternative to the Patriot missile defense system.<\/b><\/p>\n
This is reported by<\/a> Censor.NET, citing the head of state’s statement.<\/p>\n According to the president, the event will be attended by European leaders and representatives of the defense industry. The main topic will be the launch of joint production of a system to intercept ballistic missiles.<\/p>\n Zelensky noted that Freya should become an analogue of the American Patriot system in terms of its capabilities for intercepting ballistic targets, but be cheaper and suitable for mass production.<\/p>\n “This project is our anti-ballistic system, which should be an analogue in terms of shooting down ballistic targets, an analogue of Patriot, but a more mass-produced and cheaper system,” the president said.<\/p>\n According to him, if European partners support the project with their production capabilities, Freya will be able to move on to practical implementation in the near future.<\/p>\n The president stressed that today one of the main challenges for Ukraine remains protection against ballistic missiles. He also noted that for the rapid implementation of the project, the participation of European partners is necessary, as they have technologies and production capacities that are absent in Ukraine. According to Zelensky, eight European countries may join the project.<\/p>\n “I am very much counting on the success of this project.
