Polish President Karol Nawrotski called for a state-level ban on the red-and-black flag of the OUN-UPA. He made the corresponding statement on July 11 during memorial events marking the Volyn Tragedy Day.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During a speech in the village of Radruzh near the Ukrainian border, Karol Nawrocki stated that he supports a legislative ban on the red-and-black flag of the OUN-UPA in Poland.<\/p>\n

“We don’t want to see it in Poland – and I will do everything to ensure that it doesn’t appear in Poland. I believe that the Polish parliament will pass a corresponding law, because it is the same as the Blut und Boden (“Blood and Soil”) flag,” said Karol Nawrocki.<\/p>\n

The Polish president also said that, in his opinion, this flag symbolizes the ideology of Ukrainian nationalists, whom he accused of killing Polish civilians. At the same time, he noted that he was not placing responsibility on the entire Ukrainian people, but was talking about the so-called “Bandera ideology.”<\/p>\n

Navrotsky stressed that attempts to justify or silence crimes are unacceptable, as, according to him, this creates the prerequisites for the repetition of similar tragedies in the future.<\/p>\n

During his speech, the Polish president also mentioned one of the victims of the Volyn tragedy – 14-year-old Polish girl Jadwiga. According to Navrosky, her death is no different from the death of modern Ukrainian teenagers who become victims of Russian aggression.<\/p>\n

Previously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on Poland to exercise restraint after the Sejm considered a bill that would equate the propaganda of the ideology of the OUN and UPA with the propaganda of Nazism and communism.<\/a><\/p>\n
