Here’s the thing, friends. I also thought that authoritarianism is impossible in a state of strong institutions. That, like, it is strong, independent, professional institutions that stand in the way of the growth of dictatorships. Institutions are not only laws, clear procedures, and clear rules. First of all, they are people. And people can be bought, intimidated, blackmailed, fired. And even killed. Authoritarian regimes and dictatorships are extremely inventive, they are real predators. And that is why institutions are not a concrete obstacle in the way of dictatorships,” she noted.

She also added that in his post, the former coordinator of the Public Council of Integrity, Mykhailo, “joyfully and maliciously, like an angry cub, lashed out at Poroshenko, saying, haha, and we were saying back then that it was Poroshenko who allowed “such a concentration of corrupt officials, Russian citizens, relatives of Kivalov, and other judicial bigwigs” into the new composition of the Supreme Court.

“I tried to enter into a dialogue with Mykhailo and deny that Petro Poroshenko did not make a unilateral decision regarding the judges, he simply approved what was selected, but it seems that Mr. Zhernakov persisted in his malicious delight in the fact that, ha-ha-ha, I said it, and flooded me with links to lists of judges that the Public Integrity Council once had questions about. So. Among the list of judges that the Public Integrity Council once “rejected”, there are not those 3 judges who today denied Poroshenko’s lawsuit. The Public Integrity Council and the HQCJ never had questions about any of them,” the blogger noted.

“That is, it was not Poroshenko who approved the “corrupted” judges. It was Zhernakov, as part of the Public Integrity Council, who recommended them to the Court of Cassation,” she concluded.

Ukrainian politician and diplomat Valeriy Chaly noted that right now Ukraine is undergoing a test of compliance with the rule of law and justice, without which it is futile to hope for integration into the European Union.

“JUSTICE” next to “WAR” will most likely become the most popular word in reports about Ukraine these days and for the next, quite long, period.
In Ukrainian it can be translated as “justice”, “legality”, “justice”.
“It is INJUSTICE that “gets” Ukrainians the most,” the diplomat noted.

“Regarding legality and justice, this is something without which it is useless to hope for integration into the European Union. EU membership is about internal politics, legislation and practices, not about the number of visits or summits and collective photos,” Chaly emphasized.

“We are now passing a test. And even in conditions of war! The people of Ukraine are paying and will continue to pay a huge price for attempts to return to authoritarian, non-European models. What price? We will only see in the future,” he added.

Yuriy Kasyanov, an aerial reconnaissance specialist and founder of the Matrix-UAV unmanned aviation bureau, warned that after such a decision by the Supreme Court, any citizen of Ukraine could receive sanctions.

“The Supreme Court did not lift the sanctions against Poroshenko. No one should rejoice about this, not even the ardent opponents of the fifth president of Ukraine. The correct, legal, constitutional decision of the Supreme Court would be to lift not only the sanctions against Poroshenko, but also all sanctions against citizens of Ukraine who are within the reach of the Ukrainian law enforcement and judicial system. Because only the investigation and the court can establish guilt and punish a citizen of Ukraine, who at the same time has the right to count on legal protection and competition in the legal process,” he noted.

“When the fate of a citizen is decided by five or six effective managers, it reminds us of the NKVD troikas that sent millions of our compatriots to death and suffering. Tomorrow, sanctions may be imposed on the judges of the Supreme Court themselves, and on the court itself as an institution. As well as on members of the National Security and Defense Council, who today make unconstitutional decisions. Each of us can receive sanctions. And this is no longer a state governed by the rule of law. This is a dictatorship of audacity,” Kasyanov noted.

Ukrainian economist and blogger Borys Kushniruk emphasized that society’s reaction to such illegal court decisions is very important.

“The reaction of society to the decisions of judges is important.
