Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation in Bukovina detained a serviceman suspected of organizing the illegal transportation of conscripted men to Romania. According to investigators, the cost of such a “route” was $10,000 per person.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by the press service<\/a> of the State Bureau of Investigation.<\/p>\n

According to the agency, the serviceman was detained by the bureau’s employees together with the Security Service of Ukraine and with the assistance of the State Border Guard Service. According to the investigation, he was a participant in a scheme to illegally smuggle men liable for military service to European Union countries across the Ukrainian-Romanian border.<\/p>\n

The investigation established that the suspect was supposed to deliver men from Chernivtsi to a section of the state border that could be crossed on foot outside the checkpoints. He also promised to determine the date and time of the crossing in order to avoid border patrols.<\/p>\n

According to the SBI, other participants in the scheme were looking for others who wanted to illegally leave the territory of Ukraine, after which their contacts were passed on to the perpetrators. The cost of the transfer was $10,000 per person, and the proceeds were distributed among all members of the group.<\/p>\n

Thus, on July 1, a serviceman was detained “red-handed” after receiving money from a conscripted man. According to the investigation, he joined the criminal scheme in May 2026.<\/p>\n

A pre-trial investigation is currently underway. Law enforcement officers are identifying the full circle of participants in the scheme.<\/p>\n

The serviceman was informed of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal smuggling of persons across the state border of Ukraine, committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons for selfish motives. The sanction of the article provides for up to 9 years of imprisonment, deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to 3 years, and confiscation of property.<\/p>\n

The procedural management of the case is carried out by the Chernivtsi Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Field of Defense of the Western Region.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the Security Service and the National Police liquidated<\/a> eight schemes of evasion of mobilization in different regions of Ukraine and detained their organizers. According to the investigation, the defendants offered conscripts to avoid the draft for 2-17.5 thousand dollars. They produced forged documents or helped to illegally travel abroad outside the checkpoints.<\/p>\n
