The Security Service of Ukraine reported the exposure of a scheme to embezzle funds from PJSC Centrenergo allocated to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the energy infrastructure in the Kyiv and Kharkiv regions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is stated in a statement by the SBU.<\/p>\n

According to investigators, the scheme’s participants embezzled more than 10 million hryvnias, intended for the purchase of materials needed for the repair of the Trypilska and Zmievska thermal power plants.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement officials have established that the head of a department at Centrenergo and two owners of supplier companies may be involved in the deal. According to investigators, the official signed a contract to supply pipes for the repair of energy facilities, but instead of the new products specified in the tender documents, the suppliers purchased old, substandard pipes that had been stored outdoors for a long time.<\/p>\n

The SBU notes that to conceal the origin of the products and their actual year of manufacture, the pipes were falsely marked and passed off as new. According to investigators, the participants in the scheme divided the difference between the actual cost of the materials and the contract amount.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement officials note that the use of such pipes could have jeopardized the stable operation of key thermal power plants, especially ahead of the heating season. Expert assessments confirmed that the supplied products did not meet state quality standards, and the damage to Centrenergo is estimated at 10.4 million hryvnias.<\/p>\n

During the searches, mobile phones, computer equipment, and documents were seized from the suspects, which, according to the SBU, confirm their involvement in illegal activities.<\/p>\n

All three suspects were served notices of suspicion under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, specifically embezzlement, forgery, and abuse of office. If found guilty, they face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
