The US Senate has introduced an updated bill on large-scale sanctions against Russia. The document provides for restrictions not only against Russian banks, defense enterprises and the “shadow fleet”, but also against Russian dictator Vladimir Putin personally.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The initiative was prepared by a group of senators from the Republican and Democratic parties. The bill is named after Senator Lindsey Graham, who completed work on the document shortly before his death. It has already been supported by 26 senators.<\/p>\n

The document provides for the mandatory imposition of sanctions against Putin, Russian banks, energy companies, defense-industrial complex enterprises, and vessels of the so-called “shadow fleet” used to export Russian oil.<\/p>\n

In addition, senators propose imposing duties of up to 100% on the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas. This list could include China, India, Hungary, Slovakia, France, Belgium and Japan. The list of countries is planned to be reviewed every 180 days.<\/p>\n

According to Axios, the final version of the bill was the result of a compromise between Lindsey Graham and the administration of US President Donald Trump. During the finalization of the document, the proposed tariff rate was reduced from 500% to 100%, and the US president was given the right to temporarily suspend certain sanctions with mandatory notification to Congress.<\/p>\n

Donald Trump himself said that the bill has a “good chance” of passing.<\/p>\n
