Democratic US Congressmen Don Baier and Brad Schneider have opposed the bill on so-called “hell” sanctions against Russia. At the same time, they stated that they continue to support sanctions pressure on Russia and aid to Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Congressman Don Bayer has released a statement expressing his opposition to the Russia sanctions bill, drafted by Senator Lindsey Graham. The bill would give the US president the authority to impose a 100 percent tariff on countries that purchase Russian energy.<\/p>\n

Don Baier and Brad Schneider stated that they are not against sanctions against Russia, but against expanding the US president’s authority to impose trade tariffs.<\/p>\n

“The American people do not want and cannot afford more of President Trump’s illegal, cost-increasing tariffs. Unfortunately, the Russia Sanctions Act is nothing more than a backdoor attempt to impose tariffs of up to 100 percent on our major trading partners, while covertly limiting Congress’ ability to stop further escalation of Trump’s global trade war,” the statement said.<\/p>\n

The congressmen also emphasized that they “fully support” sanctions against Russia and states that support its aggression against Ukraine, but they consider it appropriate to consider other legislative initiatives to support Ukraine.<\/p>\n

“This bill is definitely not one of them. Instead, it undermines United States support for Ukraine when it needs us most,” Don Bayer and Brad Schneider said.<\/p>\n

It is worth recalling that the bill was introduced in the Senate by Senator Lindsey Graham together with Senator Richard Blumenthal. After finalization, the document provides for the introduction of a 100 percent tariff on the five largest buyers of Russian energy.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that a bipartisan bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia, developed by Senator Lindsey Graham, has already received the support of 61 US senators.<\/a><\/p>\n
