Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar has proposed multiple chess champion Judit Polg\u00e1r to become the country’s next president. Parliament is expected to elect a new head of state by August 20.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After the removal of Tam\u00e1s \u0160uyok from the presidency, P\u00e9ter Magyar declared that the country needed a head of state “of whom every Hungarian could be proud.” He announced that he intended to meet with Judit Polg\u00e1r to offer her the position of head of state until the adoption of a new Constitution.<\/p>\n

“The presidency is not a profession or a job, but the highest form of public service… The recognition that Polgar enjoys is due not to political connections or contacts, but to her exceptional talent, diligence, unsurpassed capacity for hard work and honesty,” said Peter Magyar.<\/p>\n

According to him, it is Polgar who is able to represent the interests of all citizens of the country and promote the unity of society.<\/p>\n

Judit Polg\u00e1r has not yet responded publicly to the proposal. Parliament, where the Magyar Tisza party has a majority, is expected to elect a new president by August 20.<\/p>\n

Judit Polg\u00e1r<\/strong> was born on July 23, 1976 in Budapest. She is the most decorated chess player in history and the first woman to enter the top ten of the world rankings among all chess players.<\/p>\n

In 1991, at the age of 15 years and 4 months, Polgar became the youngest grandmaster in the world, surpassing the record of Garry Kasparov. Throughout her career, she repeatedly defeated reigning world champions, including Garry Kasparov, Viswanathan Anand, Vladimir Kramnik, Veselin Topalov, and other leading grandmasters.<\/p>\n

Polg\u00e1r led the FIDE women’s world rankings for 26 consecutive years. At the same time, she refused to participate in women’s tournaments on principle, playing mainly in open competitions on a par with men.<\/p>\n

In 2014, the chess player completed her professional career. After that, she is engaged in the development of chess education, popularization of the game among children, works as a commentator for international tournaments and participates in the work of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). Polg\u00e1r is also the founder of the educational program Chess Palace, which is used in Hungarian schools.<\/p>\n

Recall that in early July, the Hungarian government submitted to parliament a bill on a large-scale constitutional reform, which envisages changes in the system of public administration. One of the provisions of the document was the early termination of the powers of the current President Tam\u00e1s Szuj\u00f3k.<\/a><\/p>\n
