On Wednesday, July 22, the EU Council Working Party on Enlargement (COELA) will consider for the second time the issue of approving the screening results of the second and third negotiation clusters for Ukraine and Moldova. The main obstacle remains the position of Hungary, which the EU countries will try to convince to support this decision.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by<\/a> “European Truth” with reference to diplomatic sources in Brussels.<\/p>\n

According to the publication, Ireland, which currently holds the presidency of the EU Council, together with other member states, will once again try to obtain Budapest’s consent to approve the screening results of clusters No. 2 and No. 3. If approved, official letters will be sent to Ukraine and Moldova inviting them to submit their negotiating positions, which will be the formal start of the procedure for opening these clusters.<\/p>\n

“The COELA agenda has again included items on the screening results of clusters No. 2 and No. 3 for Ukraine and Moldova. The Irish presidency and the EU states will try for the second time to convince the representative of Hungary to support this decision,” the publication’s source reported.<\/p>\n

The interlocutor of “European Truth” emphasized that it is precisely sending such a letter that launches the official procedure for opening the negotiation cluster.<\/p>\n

According to sources, Ireland aims to begin preparations for the opening of new clusters for Ukraine and Moldova before the summer break, in order to hold a relevant intergovernmental conference in September.<\/p>\n

The optimistic scenario assumes the opening of all negotiation clusters by the end of 2026 \u2014 approximately one cluster per month.<\/p>\n

It is noted that the COELA meeting on July 22 will be the last before the summer break. The next meeting of the working group is tentatively scheduled for September 1.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that EU ambassadors agreed to open the sixth negotiation cluster within the framework of Ukraine’s accession process to the European Union<\/a> .<\/p>\n

Hungary has also suspended consideration of applications from Ukraine and Moldova to join the European Union<\/a> . Budapest has postponed a decision on the opening of all official negotiation clusters for Ukraine and Moldova.<\/p>\n
