On the night of July 24, the Liberian-flagged merchant ship Christiana B, which was transporting coal from the United States to Ukraine, was damaged in the Black Sea. Previously, the cause of the incident could have been a naval mine explosion or a strike by a naval drone.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by the Romanian Emergency Situations Department.<\/p>\n

According to Romanian authorities, the incident occurred in Romania’s exclusive economic zone, approximately 22 nautical miles southeast of the settlement of Sfintu Gheorghe. The crew transmitted a distress signal via the international maritime communication channel, reporting damage to the vessel and the possible need for evacuation.<\/p>\n

Rescue vessels from the Romanian Agency for the Rescue of Human Life at Sea, as well as a helicopter from the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs, which conducted an aerial reconnaissance of the area, were quickly dispatched to assist.<\/p>\n

The captain of the Christiana B later reported that no crew members were injured in the incident and no evacuation was required. The vessel was able to continue its journey to the coast on its own for technical inspection and repairs.<\/p>\n

Preliminary assessments suggest that the damage to cargo hold \u21166 could have been caused by a naval mine or a naval drone strike. The final causes of the incident are currently being determined.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that the Liberian-flagged tanker Gas Lisbon, which was carrying propane to the Ukrainian port of Reni, was also damaged near the coast of Romania<\/a> . After the incident, a fire broke out on board and the crew was evacuated.<\/p>\n
