The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police have detained two 16-year-old boys who, according to investigators, were recruited by Russian special services to set fire to military transport and critical infrastructure equipment. Both suspects were detained within 24 hours of committing the sabotage acts and face up to 10 years in prison.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The SBU reported<\/a> this.<\/p>\n

According to the investigation, both minors were looking for quick money in Telegram channels, where they came into the field of view of Russian supervisors. After recruitment, they received tasks to destroy equipment in the Odessa and Vinnytsia regions.<\/p>\n

In Odessa, the suspect, according to the SBU, set fire to a truck crane, two truck-mounted platforms, and a crane-manipulator, which belonged to one of the key energy facilities in the region. According to the investigation, the occupiers hoped to disrupt emergency and restoration work on high-voltage power lines that provide electricity to southern Ukraine.<\/p>\n

“In this way, the enemy hoped to disrupt emergency restoration and repair work on high-voltage power lines that supply power to the southern region of Ukraine,” the SBU reported.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement officers established that before the arson, the young man purchased a flammable mixture, after which he reached the electrical substation by suburban transport and carried out the tasks of the Russian curator.<\/p>\n

In Vinnytsia region, SBU counterintelligence detained a 16-year-old resident of Hnivan, who, according to the case materials, set fire to the SUV of a Ukrainian serviceman. Before that, he monitored the parking lots of Defense Forces vehicles, and after the arson, he filmed the fire on his phone and sent the recording to an FSB representative as confirmation of the work done.<\/p>\n

Both suspects were detained “on hot pursuit.” During the searches, law enforcement officers seized mobile phones, arson tools, and other evidence of cooperation with Russian special services.<\/p>\n

SBU investigators informed the defendants of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine \u2013 intentional destruction or damage to property by arson. The investigation is currently ongoing, and law enforcement officers are also resolving the issue of additional qualification of their actions.<\/p>\n

The Security Service emphasized that citizens who are being recruited by Russian special services or who have information about such activities should immediately report this to law enforcement.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the Security Service of Ukraine detained an FSB agent in the Odessa region who was helping Russian troops prepare strikes on fuel infrastructure and the supply of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The man was caught while he was installing a GPS beacon on a military fuel tanker so that the enemy could track its route and strike in real time.<\/a><\/p>\n

As reported, officers of the Security Service of Ukraine detained an FSB agent in the Sumy region who was collecting intelligence information to prepare Russian airstrikes on border areas.<\/a><\/p>\n
