Officially, Moscow and Pyongyang talk about developing trade and tourism, but journalists and human rights activists believe that the crossing could be used for military logistics.

This is reported by The Guardian.

The bridge over the Tumannaya River will connect the Russian village of Khasan with the North Korean town of Tumangang. It will be the first road connection between the two countries.

According to the publication, North Korea has already completed work on its section and has set up the necessary infrastructure for the passage of transport. Russia is still completing its part, so the exact opening date has not yet been announced.

Despite official statements about economic cooperation, an investigation by the Ukrainian human rights organization Truth Hounds indicates a different purpose for the facility. The authors of the article believe that the bridge is being built primarily to simplify military logistics between Moscow and Pyongyang.

According to researchers, through the new crossing, Russia will be able to more quickly transport military personnel, North Korean construction workers, and officials, as well as receive necessary resources and supplies from the DPRK.

Experts also doubt the economic feasibility of the construction. According to their estimates, more than $100 million was spent on the bridge, although the total trade turnover between Russia and North Korea in 2024 was only $34 million.

They are also not convinced by the version about the development of tourism. Last year, about 10 thousand Russians visited the DPRK, and the country’s main tourist center – Pyongyang – is located more than 500 kilometers from the new bridge.

Also follow “Pryamy” on Facebook , X , Telegram and Instagram.

Russia has almost completed the construction of its first road bridge to North Korea.
