The European Union is preparing its most extensive package of sanctions against companies helping Russia wage war. More than 1,600 companies could be blacklisted.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported<\/a> by Bloomberg, citing informed sources.<\/p>\n

According to the agency, if EU countries support the proposal, the number of legal entities under European sanctions will increase by approximately 50%.<\/p>\n

The new list could include companies with a combined annual turnover of over $20 billion. In total, these enterprises employ over 265,000 people.<\/p>\n

Bloomberg notes that the new package of sanctions will differ from previous ones. Brussels has focused not on individual goods or sectors of the economy, but on specific companies that, according to the EU, supply or support the Russian military-industrial complex.<\/p>\n

According to the agency’s sources, the package has been in development for several months. Its goal is to impose restrictions on those elements of the Russian defense industry and related structures that have not yet been subject to sanctions.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Bloomberg sources note that it is increasingly difficult for the European Union to agree on new sanctions packages, as their adoption requires unanimous support from all member states.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the US Senate has completed work on a bill on new tough sanctions against Russia<\/a> . The document provides for economic pressure not only on Moscow, but also on countries that continue to buy Russian oil and gas.<\/p>\n
