Despite statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about agreements to launch production of Patriot interceptor missiles in Ukraine, the implementation of this project may prove to be much more difficult. One of the main obstacles is the possible refusal of the American corporation Boeing to transfer critical technologies.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As the publication’s correspondent Christoph Wanner noted, the key element of the PAC-3 missiles is the homing head, which is manufactured by Boeing. These missiles are the most modern modification of the Patriot and are used to intercept ballistic targets, in particular the Russian Iskander complexes.<\/p>\n

According to the journalist, Boeing is currently not showing any willingness to license the production of this component to other countries. This could be the main obstacle to localizing missile production in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The publication emphasizes that even if official permission is received to produce Patriot, Ukraine will need access to a number of critical technologies from several American manufacturers. In addition, creating production facilities and setting up the production of such missiles will take a significant amount of time.<\/p>\n

Another challenge is the security of future enterprises. According to Die Welt, production facilities in Ukraine could become priority targets for Russian strikes. Therefore, one of the possible options is to locate part of the production in Western European countries.<\/p>\n

An additional factor remains the high demand for PAC-3 missiles in the United States itself. Washington is actively replenishing its own stocks, which may also affect the pace of technology transfer to allies.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Boeing has not yet commented on the possibility of granting a license to produce homing heads for Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The issue of localization of Patriot missile production became one of the key issues during the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump on July 28. After the talks, Zelensky announced an agreement to work on launching the production of interceptor missiles in Ukraine, and the Ukrainian delegation also held separate consultations with Lockheed Martin.<\/p>\n

Previously, the head of state noted that even after obtaining the necessary licenses, the launch of serial production could take from one to five years.<\/p>\n

Recall that Ukraine expects to obtain the technical ability to independently produce missiles for Patriot systems by the end of 2026<\/a> .<\/p>\n

Zelensky also asked the US to provide Ukraine with an emergency “winter package” of 300 interceptor missiles to strengthen the protection of energy infrastructure.<\/a><\/p>\n
