The Lviv City Council supported the proposal of the European Solidarity faction and created a temporary control commission on the restoration of the museum of the UPA General-Brigadier Roman Shukhevych in Bilogorshcha.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yevhen Kuzyk, a deputy of the Lviv City Council from the “European Solidarity” faction and the initiator of the creation of the TCC, was elected as the chairman of the temporary control commission. It includes representatives of the deputy factions “EU”, “VARTA”, “Holos”, VO “Svoboda” and “Samopomich”. <\/p>\n

The Museum of the General-Coroner of the UPA Roman Shukhevych is one of the most important memorial sites in Lviv and Ukraine. Its restoration after destruction has not only architectural, but also historical and social significance, the deputies emphasize. The work of the temporary commission will be aimed at ensuring the openness of the museum restoration process, proper parliamentary control over the development of financial resources and taking into account the wishes of the Shukhevych family. <\/p>\n

As noted by the head of the TCC, a deputy of the Lviv City Council from the “European Solidarity” faction, Yevhen Kuzyk, “the restoration of the museum of the UPA General-Coroner Roman Shukhevych is not just a construction project. It is a matter of our historical memory, national dignity and responsibility to Ukrainian society. That is why the Lviv City Council today adopted a decision to create a temporary control commission. Our task is to make the restoration process as open, transparent and understandable as possible for the community.” <\/p>\n

“We want to become a platform for constructive cooperation between deputies, executive bodies, the museum community, historians, architects, the family of Roman Shukhevych, and the public. We will closely monitor the progress of the project, promptly respond to possible problematic issues, and develop solutions that will help complete the restoration of the museum in a high-quality manner and within the specified time frame,” the deputy emphasizes. <\/p>\n

“For me, as the chairman of the commission, it is fundamentally important that this process be open to Lviv residents. The Roman Shukhevych Museum must be restored professionally, responsibly, and with maximum respect for its historical significance. This is our duty to Ukrainian defenders, to the family of Roman Shukhevych, and to future generations of Ukrainians,” Yevhen Kuzyk is convinced. <\/p>\n

The Roman Shukhevych Museum was destroyed on January 1, 2024 during Russian shelling. As is known, the Poroshenko Foundation immediately offered financial assistance for the speedy reconstruction of the destroyed monument, and the corresponding letter of guarantee was handed over to the institution’s management. However, contrary to the wishes of the Lviv community, the city authorities ignored the Poroshenko Foundation’s proposal to rebuild the Shukhevych Museum as soon as possible. Instead, Lviv officials, in the face of a worsening economic situation and increased taxes, decided to organize a fundraiser from the people. <\/p>\n

The Museum building is the former underground headquarters of the OUN, where Shukhevych hid for the last years of his life and where he was killed by Soviet KDVs in 1950. March 5, 2025 marked the 75th anniversary of the heroic death of the legendary UPA commander. <\/p>\n

The idea of restoring the house was supported at a public meeting on January 17, 2024 in Lviv at the Historical Museum, in particular by Roman Shukhevych’s daughter Maria Trylovska, the head of the OUN-UPA Brotherhood Bohdan Borovych, dissident and public figure Myroslav Marynovych, people’s deputies of Ukraine, and deputies of the Lviv regional and city councils.<\/p>\n
