An online petition has been registered on the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine’s website, proposing the introduction of mandatory military service for able-bodied women without children. The petitioner believes this would allow for a more equitable distribution of responsibilities for defending the state during wartime.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Petition No. 41\/010515-26ep<\/a> was registered on August 10. Its author is Stanislav Rusin.<\/p>\n

As of publication, the petition has garnered 262 signatures out of the required 25,000. 91 days remain until signature collection is complete.<\/p>\n

In his appeal, Rusin refers to Article 65 of the Constitution of Ukraine, according to which the protection of the independence and territorial integrity of the state is the responsibility of Ukrainian citizens.<\/p>\n

The author notes that for more than four years of full-scale war, men bore the brunt of military service. At the same time, able-bodied women without children were not subject to general mobilization.<\/p>\n

The initiator proposes maintaining current guarantees for women raising children, but extending military service to able-bodied women without children. An exception, in his view, should be made for women with medical or other legally required deferments.<\/p>\n

The petition’s author believes that such changes will help increase the country’s mobilization resources and ensure a more equitable distribution of responsibilities for protecting the state.<\/p>\n

The appeal also calls on the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada to consider the possibility of introducing corresponding changes to legislation.<\/p>\n

However, registering a petition does not automatically mean the proposed changes will be implemented. For it to be officially considered, 25,000 signatures must be collected within the established deadline.<\/p>\n
