Ukraine has stopped drone strikes on oil tankers near Novorossiysk, Russia, after a request from US Vice President J.D. Vance. The vessels are transporting oil from Kazakhstan through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by the Financial Times, citing Ukrainian officials and other sources familiar with the situation.<\/p>\n

According to the publication, Vance raised this issue during a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on July 31. After that, the Ukrainian side no longer attacked tankers near the CPC terminal in Novorossiysk.<\/p>\n

Ukraine agreed not to attack the consortium\u2019s infrastructure and vessels not linked to Russia, unless they are under Ukrainian sanctions and are not carrying Russian oil or other Russian cargo. One Ukrainian official told the FT: \u201cWe are listening very carefully to our American partners.\u201d He said Kyiv had put in place the appropriate mechanisms to implement the agreements.<\/p>\n

A US official confirmed that the US administration has urged Ukraine not to attack non-Russian vessels in the Black Sea and CPC facilities. Washington considers this route important for supplying Kazakh oil to European markets and emphasizes that it is an alternative to Russian energy resources.<\/p>\n

The CPC is a key route for the export of Kazakh oil. The consortium includes stakes in the US companies Chevron and ExxonMobil, which also own stakes in large oil fields in Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n

In July, Ukrainian strikes on the CPC terminal and ships in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov disrupted supplies of Kazakh oil. Kazakhstan had to suspend its pumping to Novorossiysk, and the cost of freight and insurance for ships increased sharply. According to Kpler, about 1.3 million barrels of oil per day were loaded through the CPC in July \u2014 more than 300,000 barrels less than in June and 600,000 fewer than in May.<\/p>\n

On July 17, Ukrainian strikes hit an Exxon-chartered tanker waiting to load near the CPC terminal. Meanwhile, Ukraine continued to attack Russian energy infrastructure in other regions.<\/p>\n

According to the FT, Kyiv’s decision was also influenced by the issue of American Patriot interceptor missiles. Ukraine is interested in obtaining permission to produce them and plans to secure hundreds of such missiles by the winter, when Russian attacks on Ukrainian critical infrastructure are expected to intensify.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, the Russian authorities announced a massive drone attack on the Krasnodar Territory. After the night attack in Novorossiysk, according to local Telegram channels, fires broke out near the oil terminal and military harbor<\/a> , and columns of black smoke rose above the city and Gelendzhik.<\/p>\n
