There will be no total phase in Ukraine, and in Kyiv the eclipse will be very weak.

The moon will begin to cover the solar disk in Ukraine approximately after 20:10 , but observing the phenomenon will be difficult due to the low position of the Sun above the horizon. Therefore, the main thing for observation is an open place with a good view to the west or northwest, without tall buildings and trees.

It should be noted that the celestial event can be followed online . The European Space Agency will broadcast the eclipse live from 19:30 to 20:45 Central European Time — that is, from 20:30 to 21:45 Kyiv time. The broadcast will be broadcast on ESA Web TV and the agency’s YouTube channel.

The largest eclipse will be seen by residents of Uzhhorod – there the Moon will cover about 43% of the solar disk. The beginning is expected at about 20:19, and the maximum phase is at about 20:47. In Lviv, the eclipse will begin at about 20:17, the maximum will fall at 20:43, and approximately 40% of the Sun’s area will be covered.

The phenomenon will also be noticeable in Ternopil – about 26%, Khmelnytskyi – 16%, Chernivtsi – about 15%. The further east and south, the worse the conditions for observing the sunset will be.

In Kyiv, the eclipse will be almost imperceptible: it will begin at around 8:14 PM, and during the maximum at 8:18 PM, the Moon will cover only about 2.7% of the solar disk. Due to the very low position of the Sun above the horizon, it will be difficult to see this phase without a good view.

In eastern and southern Ukraine, observation will be virtually impossible: the Sun will set behind the horizon before the eclipse has time to manifest itself normally.

What is important to know: You cannot look at the Sun with the naked eye during an eclipse. Even when a significant part of the disk is covered, the bright radiation can damage your eyesight. To observe, you need special solar eclipse glasses or appropriate solar filters for optical instruments.

For Ukraine, this will be a partial eclipse, while the total phase will be seen in the evening in parts of Spain, Iceland, and Greenland.

As reported, on the night of August 12-13, Ukrainians will be able to observe the peak of the Perseid meteor shower , one of the brightest of the year. This time, the conditions for observations will be especially favorable, as the peak will fall on a new moon and the light of the Moon will not interfere with seeing the meteors.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

On the evening of August 12, Ukrainians will be able to see a partial solar eclipse, but the best conditions for observation will be in the west of the country.
