Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is reportedly dissatisfied with the performance of National Bank of Ukraine Governor Andriy Pyshnyy, but is not yet considering his dismissal.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bloomberg<\/a> reports this, citing sources familiar with the situation.<\/p>\n

According to the publication’s sources, one of the reasons for the president’s dissatisfaction is Pyshnyy’s close cooperation with the International Monetary Fund. Specifically, Zelenskyy allegedly reacted negatively to the IMF’s demands for a number of unpopular measures in exchange for an $8.1 billion financing program for Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The program’s conditions included tax increases, which drew criticism from Ukrainian parliamentarians and the public. According to Bloomberg, Zelenskyy was dissatisfied with Ukraine’s concessions in negotiations with the Fund and blamed them on several officials, including Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko and former Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka.<\/p>\n

Another complaint from the president, according to sources, is that the NBU, under Pyshnyy’s leadership, is allegedly not actively supporting the Ukrainian economy during the war.<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy also seems irritated by Pyshnyi’s excessive publicity. The NBU governor’s social media activity, particularly posts about meetings with Ukrainian officials and international donors, as well as the National Bank’s PR initiatives, according to the president, are more reminiscent of a politician’s behavior than that of a technocratic central banker.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Bloomberg sources note that Zelenskyy has no immediate plans to fire Pyshnyy. They also say the president doesn’t see a sufficiently strong candidate to replace the current NBU governor. <\/p>\n
