The Supreme Court of Ukraine partially satisfied the cassation appeal of TV presenter and blogger Dmytro Chekalkin in the case of Andriy Portnov’s lawsuit for the protection of honor, dignity and business reputation. The court overturned the decisions of previous instances and closed the proceedings in the case.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to him, the resolution was adopted on June 24, 2026. The Supreme Court declared the decisions of the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv and the Kyiv Court of Appeal, which were previously adopted in favor of Portnov, illegal and unfounded.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit concerned statements made by Chekalkin in August 2023 during an interview on Igor Lapin’s YouTube channel.<\/p>\n

Then Chekalkin stated:<\/p>\n

“The same Portnov who threatened me wrote on Facebook under my posts that you are on our lists, that we will come to destroy you, that you will be in our filtration camps. He threatened me, my children…”<\/p>\n

After that, Portnov went to court with a lawsuit to protect his honor and dignity.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the Supreme Court’s decision, Chekalkin called it important for freedom of speech and the right to criticize public figures.<\/p>\n

“The Supreme Court, by its resolution of June 24, 2026, partially satisfied Chekalkin’s cassation appeal in the case of Portnov’s lawsuit for the protection of honor and dignity. It overturned the decisions of the Pechersk District Court and the Kyiv Court of Appeal as illegal and unfounded, and closed the proceedings in the case,” he wrote.<\/p>\n

According to Chekalkin, this decision is a rare case where Portnov’s lawsuit against his critics ended in his favor.<\/p>\n
