France, Germany and the UK are working on the format for future talks on Russia’s war against Ukraine. European countries want to guarantee their participation in the talks, even if Moscow is not ready for serious dialogue.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to journalists, France and Germany are playing a leading role in shaping the European position. The UK is acting more cautiously due to concerns about relations with US President Donald Trump. European diplomats expect any talks with Russia on Ukraine to be led by the US. At the same time, there are fears in Europe that Washington and Moscow could make decisions without the participation of European states.<\/p>\n

France, Germany and Britain see themselves as key players in the negotiations to support Ukraine. These countries form the core of the “coalition of the willing” and are already developing options for military and security guarantees for Ukraine after a possible end to the war.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Poland, Italy, the Nordic countries and the European Union should be involved in the discussions. Some states, in particular the Baltic countries and Hungary, do not fully trust France and Germany to represent their interests.<\/p>\n

Thus, on June 7, President Volodymyr Zelensky met in London with the leaders of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom to discuss Europe’s role in future negotiations with Russia. Four days later, ambassadors from the three countries met in Moscow with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin.<\/p>\n

The European Union has also tried to open a diplomatic channel with Moscow. European Council President Ant\u00f3nio Costa said that Europe should be able to convey its positions directly to Russia.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Costa acknowledged that Moscow is not showing “credible signs” of readiness for serious negotiations. The Russian side has also rejected attempts by European states to establish a dialogue.<\/p>\n

French President Emmanuel Macron said that Europeans must be at the table during the negotiations. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stressed that France, Germany and the United Kingdom are acting at the request of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

According to European officials, negotiations with Russia remain a prospect, despite Moscow’s lack of interest. European states are keen to define their role in advance, as possible agreements without their participation would directly affect European security.<\/p>\n

It is worth adding that Russia continues to reject proposals for a complete or partial cessation of hostilities<\/a> , seeking to maintain the support of the pro-war part of society on the eve of the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n

Recall that the United States plans to intensify diplomatic efforts to resume negotiations between Ukraine and Russia<\/a> . At the same time, Washington recognizes that the success of this initiative is not guaranteed due to the positions of the parties.<\/p>\n
