Russia could theoretically try to launch a new offensive in northern Ukraine, particularly towards the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions. However, intelligence currently does not see the necessary prerequisites for such an operation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was stated by the Deputy Chief of the Military Development Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Major General Vadim Skibitsky inan interview<\/a> with RBC-Ukraine.<\/p>\n

According to him, the key factor for the formation of a new strike group will be mobilization in Russia. Its large-scale activities, according to Ukrainian intelligence, are practically impossible to hide, so the GUR will be able to detect preparations for a new offensive in advance.<\/p>\n

Skibitsky recalled the experience of the Russian mobilization in 2022. Then it began in the second half of October, and already in December some of the trained units appeared at the front. The main forces capable of fully participating in combat operations were ready by January 2023.<\/p>\n

According to a representative of the GUR, if Moscow conducts a new wave of mobilization this year, a powerful strike group could be formed closer to February next year.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the Major General did not rule out that the Russian command may try to launch the operation in February, given the Kremlin’s tendency to tie important military decisions to symbolic dates.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Ukrainian intelligence currently does not record either the required number of troops or other signs of the Russian Federation preparing for an offensive on the Kyiv or Chernihiv regions.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Russia is not currently demonstrating a willingness to cease fire and move on to full-fledged peace negotiations.<\/a> The GUR believes that Moscow continues to count on achieving its goals through military means.<\/p>\n
