Russia is building new launch sites for long-range drones and may be preparing to increase the number of strikes on Ukraine. One of the targets of Russian attacks could be the country’s western regions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is stated<\/a> in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Telegraph recently reported that the Russians have built 59 new drone launch pads at ten bases along the borders with Ukraine and Belarus, each capable of holding over a thousand drones.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

ISW suggests that Russia is preparing to launch more drones during massive attacks, with western Ukraine being just one of the directions of future strikes.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Analysts also noted that about 20 of the new launch rails are noticeably longer than the others. They could likely be used to launch the Geran-4 and Geran-5 jet drones.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Geran-4 can fly at a distance of 450 to 850 kilometers, and the Geran-5 – from 950 to 1,000 kilometers. Due to the greater speed and survivability of such drones, it may be more difficult for Ukrainian air defense to intercept them.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Russia is also trying to locate new launch sites further from Ukraine. ISW believes that the Russians want to protect them from Ukrainian strikes. Previously, the Defense Forces have already attacked sites from which Russian troops launched drones near occupied Donetsk.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In addition, Russia could connect new launch pads to the Rassvet satellite system, which it is developing as its own analogue of Starlink. This could help Russian forces more precisely strike Ukrainian air defense systems and other targets in the rear, as well as attack from different directions.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Analysts do not rule out that in the future Russia will be able to use this infrastructure not only against Ukraine, but also for potential strikes against NATO countries.<\/p>\n

It has previously been reported that Russia may significantly intensify its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in the coming months<\/a> , seeking to inflict maximum damage before winter sets in. The Kremlin likely hopes to exploit problems with Ukraine’s air defenses to force Ukraine to spend resources on protecting critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Recall that Russian troops likely attacked the bridge in Mayaki, Odessa region<\/a> , to complicate the export of Ukrainian grain and other goods via an alternative land route. Russia may be transferring strikes from the sea corridor to Ukraine’s land logistics. <\/p>\n
