Hungary has closed an investigation into employees of the Ukrainian Oschadbank, who were detained in March while transporting $40 million, \u20ac35 million, and 9 kg of bank gold from Austria to Ukraine. Law enforcement officers found no signs of a crime.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by<\/a> the Hungarian publication HVG, citing the lawyer of Oschadbank and the detained collectors, Lorant Horvat.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

During the investigation, the Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration verified the origin of the money and precious metals.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As law enforcement officers found out, Oschadbank employees were transporting funds and gold as part of an interbank transaction between the Austrian Raiffeisen Bank International and the Ukrainian state bank.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Raiffeisen provided the investigation with documents confirming the origin of the banknotes and gold. The bank also confirmed that Oschadbank had made the corresponding payment.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

After an inspection, Hungarian law enforcement officers concluded that the money and gold were not of criminal origin. Investigators also found no signs of money laundering or other offenses.<\/p>\n

As a result, the investigation into the employees of the Ukrainian bank was discontinued.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, Ukraine returned funds and valuables to Oschadbank, which Hungarian special services seized in March of this year during the detention of Ukrainian collectors.<\/a><\/p>\n

We remind you that the Hungarian authorities are ready to transfer two confiscated cars from Oschadbank to Ukraine, however, they do not plan to return the funds and gold.<\/a><\/p>\n
