American diplomat Paul Houston began his duties as the US Charg\u00e9 d’Affaires ad interim to Ukraine on August 23. He began his work in Kyiv by participating in the National Prayer Breakfast of Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the US Embassy in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Houston noted that it was an honor for him to begin his diplomatic mission in Ukraine during an event dedicated to religious freedom and the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.<\/p>\n

“This year, as we celebrate 250 years of independence for the United States, it is an honor for me to begin my work in Kyiv by participating in the National Prayer Breakfast of Ukraine, dedicated to religious freedom and timed to the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence,” Houston said.<\/p>\n

The American diplomat also said that he expects to work to strengthen freedom and peace during his work in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

“I look forward to the opportunity to work to advance freedom and peace as the U.S. Charg\u00e9 d’Affaires ad interim at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv,” said Houston.<\/p>\n

Paul Houston is a senior career diplomat with the rank of Minister Counselor. Prior to his assignment to Kyiv, he served as the U.S. Charg\u00e9 d’Affaires ad interim in Niamey, the capital of Niger.<\/p>\n

Previously, Houston served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Investigations and Threat Analysis in the Bureau of Diplomatic Security at the U.S. Department of State.<\/p>\n

He also served in diplomatic positions in Germany, Jordan, Haiti, Serbia, and at the U.S. Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva.<\/p>\n

Houston’s predecessor as Charg\u00e9 d’Affaires ai to Ukraine was Sandra Audkirk, who began her duties on July 17, 2026.<\/a><\/p>\n
