British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said he and other European leaders could travel to the United States in September to persuade President Donald Trump to hand over some of the US’s Patriot missile interceptor stockpiles to Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Burnham stated this in a comment to Bloomberg.<\/p>\n

The discussion revolves around a possible trip to New York during the UN General Assembly meeting. According to the British Prime Minister, after his visit to Kyiv, he has a better understanding of the steps that need to be taken in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

Burnham said he was returning from Ukraine with “real optimism” about the possibility of solving the shortage of interceptor missiles needed to protect Ukrainian cities from Russian ballistic missile attacks.<\/p>\n

European leaders are also considering holding a separate meeting of the “coalition of the willing” at the UN General Assembly. One of the key topics could be the supply of American Patriot missiles to Ukraine.<\/p>\n

“This seems to be the most likely course of events. It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it seems to be the majority’s inclination,” Burnham noted.<\/p>\n

He stressed that the UK does not have its own stockpiles of Patriot missiles, but other European countries that have such systems or the capacity to support them should be more actively involved in strengthening Ukrainian air defenses ahead of winter.<\/p>\n
