Sweden will provide an additional 270 million Swedish kronor, or $28.3 million, to support Ukraine\u2019s defense. A significant share of the funding will go towards strengthening the country\u2019s air defense capabilities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The government has instructed the country’s Armed Forces to distribute over 270 million crowns among several international funds and initiatives that assist Ukraine.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In particular, Sweden will contribute an additional $14 million, or 133 million Swedish kronor, to the American PURL initiative, which is coordinated by NATO.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Under PURL, the United States transfers packages of American weapons to Ukraine, and allied and partner countries finance their purchase.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Swedish Defense Minister Poul J\u00f6nsson noted that Stockholm is focused on Ukraine’s needs and priorities. According to him, participation in PURL allows Ukraine to quickly receive the necessary American weapons.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Among the priorities, he named air defense systems and ammunition needed to protect against Russian attacks.<\/p>\n

This will be Sweden’s fifth contribution to PURL. With the new package, the total amount of Swedish assistance under this initiative will reach $552 million.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, Finland plans to significantly strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses ahead of winter<\/a> to help protect the country from possible Russian attacks.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Ukraine received additional Patriot missiles and AIM missiles, as well as confirmation of the transfer of several Crotale air defense systems, along with ammunition for them.<\/a><\/p>\n
