Europe has seen a sharp decline in the stockpiles of American Patriot interceptor missiles. A significant portion of the US missiles were used during hostilities with Iran, and now they may not be enough to repel sustained ballistic attacks.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Associated Press writes<\/a> about this.<\/p>\n

According to the publication, during the fighting in the Middle East, the United States transferred Patriot missiles from Europe to protect its military and allies from Iranian attacks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As a result, American stockpiles have been significantly reduced. According to experts, the US has used about 1,500 of the 2,330 Patriot missiles – about 65% of the total.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The problem is particularly acute in Europe. One U.S. defense official told the AP that the continent currently does not have enough Patriot missiles to repel a sustained ballistic missile strike.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This creates additional risks against the backdrop of the threat from Russia. Patriot remains one of the key means of intercepting Russian high-speed ballistic missiles.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

At the same time, the supply of missiles to Ukraine was not an unexpected burden on American reserves – they were planned and calculated in advance. However, during the fighting in the Middle East, the missiles were used up much faster than expected.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

NATO and the Pentagon, however, assure that the situation is not that critical. The Alliance stated that they have enough ammunition for their own defense and continued assistance to Ukraine.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Pentagon also denied reports of a critical shortage and stated that the American arsenal remains sufficient to fulfill the assigned tasks.<\/p>\n

It is unlikely that the problem will be solved quickly. The first European Patriot missile production plant is planned to open in Germany in September, but a noticeable restoration of stocks is not expected until closer to 2030.<\/p>\n

Earlier, British Prime Minister<\/a> Andy Burnham said that in September, together with other European leaders, he may travel to the United States to convince President Donald Trump to transfer part of the American stockpile of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems to Ukraine. <\/p>\n
