Ukraine has officially appealed to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to prevent the operation of the Russian military satellite system “Rassvet” over the sovereign territory of Ukraine. Kyiv also called on international partners to support this position and block the use of the system over the territories of other states.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by the press service<\/a> of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n

“Today we officially appealed to the International Telecommunication Union with a demand to exclude the national territory of Ukraine from the declared service areas of all beams of the Russian military satellite system “Rassvet” networks in all frequency bands,” said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga.<\/p>\n

Ukraine submitted the corresponding note to the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau through the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva.<\/p>\n

According to Sybiga, Russia’s use of the satellite system over Ukrainian territory has no civilian purpose. He stated that Moscow could use it to support a war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Sybiga called on partners to support the Ukrainian position and block the operation of the Rassvet system not only over Ukraine, but also over the territories of other sovereign states.<\/p>\n

“We call on all partners to support our position and block the operation of the Rassvet system – not only over the sovereign territory of Ukraine, but also over the sovereign territories of other countries,” the Foreign Minister noted.<\/p>\n

According to him, Ukraine will continue to promote international diplomatic countermeasures against the Russian satellite system.<\/p>\n

By the way, Russia is significantly ahead of its own plans to deploy the Rassvet satellite system<\/a> , which is positioned as the Russian equivalent of Starlink.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Russia launched the second batch of Rassvet satellites, bringing the total number of such devices in orbit to about 40.<\/a> However, for the stable operation of the network, according to Ukrainian experts, the Russian Federation needs to launch at least 200\u2013250 satellites into orbit.<\/a><\/p>\n
