US President Donald Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will travel to Moscow and Kyiv this weekend to try to restart peace talks. The US is insisting that Ukraine and Russia temporarily halt mutual strikes while the US representatives are in Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the publication, negotiations regarding the visit of Witkoff and Kushner lasted several weeks. The US demanded that Ukraine stop drone strikes on Moscow and Russian energy facilities while the American representatives were in Russia, and Russia similarly stopped missile strikes on Kyiv.<\/p>\n

The publication’s sources noted that the trip has not yet been officially announced. At the same time, it is currently unknown whether Witkoff and Kushner will bring new peace proposals to the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, or whether they will try to help the parties agree on positions on unresolved issues, including control over Donbas.<\/p>\n

Witkoff and Kushner have visited Moscow several times, but they have yet to visit Kyiv, despite several official invitations. Witkoff has met with Vladimir Putin more than 6 times.<\/p>\n

The publication notes that the visit comes against the backdrop of a difficult situation in the war. For most of the year, Ukrainian strikes on oil refineries and other energy facilities have caused significant damage to Russia and led to fuel shortages.<\/p>\n

At the same time, according to the publication, Ukraine has exhausted its reserves of interceptors to counter Russian missiles, which creates additional risks for Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.<\/p>\n

According to The Kyiv Independent, alternative plans are being discussed in Washington after Witkoff allegedly began to fear the trip amid Russian warnings.<\/p>\n
