This is the first road bridge between Russia and North Korea.

This is reported by Russian media.

The ceremony to launch traffic on the bridge was attended remotely by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and North Korean Prime Minister Park Thae-song. Previously, land communication between Russia and North Korea was carried out only by rail via the “Friendship Bridge”.

The new bridge is just over 1 kilometer long. Its construction began in late April 2025.

The bridge was named after Red Army officer Yakov Tikhonovich Novichenko. In March 1946, he saved North Korean leader Kim Il-sung during an assassination attempt in Pyongyang by covering himself with a grenade. Novichenko was seriously injured, but survived. The DPRK government awarded him the highest state title – Hero of Labor.

During the opening ceremony, the convoy of cars from the Russian side was led by a red Zaporozhets, which belonged to Novichenko.

Russia and the DPRK signed an agreement to build a bridge across the Tumannaya River in June 2024 during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to North Korea.

At that time, the countries also signed a treaty on a comprehensive strategic partnership. The text notes that this treaty became the basis for sending North Korean troops to Russia to participate in the war against Ukraine.

It was previously reported that North Korea continues to supply Russia with weapons and is preparing a new contingent of troops for dispatch to the Russian Federation . According to South Korea’s estimates, Pyongyang has already transferred more than 15 million artillery shells to Moscow.

By the way, North Korea has sent about 400 drone operators to the Kursk region of Russia . They are part of the North Korean contingent of about 8,500 military personnel and may be involved in reconnaissance and strikes on Ukrainian targets.

As a reminder, North Korea is relocating its missile unit to the Voronezh region of the Russian Federation , which could be used to strike Ukraine. It could be equipped with 120 ballistic missiles.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

Russia and North Korea have opened a bridge over the Tumannaya River connecting the two countries to traffic.
