The fifth President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, met with Polish MP Pawel Kowal in the Polish Sejm. The parties discussed the war, prospects for a ceasefire, Ukrainian-Polish relations, and Ukraine’s further progress towards the EU.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Poroshenko announced<\/a> this on Facebook.<\/p>\n

According to him, the conversation focused on the necessary steps to achieve a just and lasting peace. Poroshenko emphasized that for effective diplomacy, in his opinion, it is necessary to increase pressure on Russia.<\/p>\n

“Our common position is that true and effective diplomacy requires force, and therefore pressure on Russia, because Putin does not understand any other language,” Poroshenko wrote. <\/p>\n

Separately, the politicians discussed Ukrainian-Polish relations and the issue of exhumations. According to Poroshenko, the parties agreed to continue working on depoliticizing this issue in the interests of both countries. <\/p>\n

The meeting also discussed Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. Poroshenko stressed the importance of supporting Warsaw, in particular for the faster opening of the next negotiation clusters.<\/p>\n

The issue of opening negotiation clusters for Ukraine remains relevant today: on September 8, representatives of EU countries are again trying to make progress on clusters 2 and 3, which were previously blocked by Hungary.<\/p>\n
