In Kyiv, a 31-year-old man set fire to a military minibus on the orders of a Russian curator who had promised him a $1,000 reward. The fire also damaged two cars parked nearby, and the suspect himself was detained by law enforcement officers this morning.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The arson occurred at night on Petro Hryhorenko Avenue in the Darnytskyi district of the capital. According to the investigation, a man approached a parked military Volkswagen Transporter, doused it with solvent, set it on fire and fled. <\/p>\n

The flames spread to two cars parked nearby, a Mazda and a BMW. A passerby noticed the fire and called the police. An investigative and operational team arrived at the scene. <\/p>\n

Operatives of the Darnytsia Police Department, together with colleagues from the capital’s headquarters, criminal analysis analysts, and SBU officers, identified the arsonist. He turned out to be a 31-year-old Kyiv resident, who was detained by investigators in the morning under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. <\/p>\n

According to the investigation, the man received an assignment via messenger from a curator from Russia. He was promised $1,000 for setting fire to a military vehicle. He chose a minibus used by a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as his target.<\/p>\n

Investigators under the procedural guidance of the Darnytsia District Prosecutor’s Office informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional damage to another’s property committed by arson.<\/p>\n

Under this article, the man faces up to 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n

During the pre-trial investigation, the court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 656 thousand hryvnias.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police detained two 16-year-old boys who, according to investigators, were recruited by Russian special services to set fire to military transport and critical infrastructure equipment<\/a> . Both suspects were detained within 24 hours of committing the sabotage and face up to 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n
