The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Brave1 defense innovation cluster conducted a large-scale test of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with automatic homing modules for moving ground targets.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by the press service of the department.<\/p>\n

Such tests make it possible to more quickly identify the most effective developments and launch them for procurement for the Defense Forces.<\/p>\n

Autonomous targeting technology is already being used on the front lines. Since the beginning of the year, the number of hits using AI has increased tenfold. However, the final decision on the use of weapons always remains with a human.<\/p>\n

Seven companies developing autonomous drone systems participated in the tests.<\/p>\n

According to the test conditions, each drone had to fly 2 km, independently detect and capture a moving lightly armored target at a distance of at least 500 meters, and hit it. After capturing the target, the operator completely stopped controlling the drone.<\/p>\n

Multi-rotor drones larger than 10 inches with a payload of 2 kg or more were tested. Each team had up to three attempts, and to successfully pass the test, they had to hit the target at least twice.<\/p>\n

This was the first large-scale testing of automatic re-targeting technology under uniform conditions and criteria. Six out of seven manufacturers were able to successfully pass the tests. They received recommendations for further purchases.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Defense and Brave1 plan to continue implementing AI and machine vision technologies to enhance the capabilities of the Defense Forces on the battlefield.<\/p>\n

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine for the first time publicly showed a self-propelled launcher of the new Koral anti-aircraft missile system<\/a> , designed, in particular, to intercept ballistic targets. During the demonstration, a missile was launched from a launcher on the chassis of a Czech Tatra truck.<\/p>\n
