Restrictions will also apply to transit bus services through Latvia.<\/p>\n<p> Currently, only one regular bus route operates between Latvia and Russia: daily trips from Riga to Moscow, operated by Norma-A under the Ecolines brand. The current permit for this route expires on January 9, 2027, and there are no plans to continue it.<\/p>\n<p> At the same time, the Latvian ministry acknowledges that the unilateral ban will not have full effect. Passengers will be able to travel to Russia and Belarus via Estonia and Lithuania or use minibuses, which are exempt from the rules for large bus carriers.<\/p>\n<p> Therefore, Latvia is striving to achieve a coordinated decision to stop such transportation at the level of all Baltic countries and the European Union.<\/p>\n<p> The Latvian National Alliance also advocates a complete ban. The party stated that in the first half of 2026 alone, more than 9,000 passengers used buses on the Riga-Moscow route. In June, demand for this route increased by more than a quarter compared to January.<\/p>\n<p> The Latvian government previously banned non-scheduled passenger flights to Russia and Belarus. The current ban is in effect from November 1, 2025, to October 31, 2026.
