His statement was also confirmed by Reuters and ABC News.<\/p>\n<p> Trump called the payment &#8220;dividends&#8221; and compared it to the funds that successful companies distribute to their shareholders.<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;If Republicans hold the House and Senate, then thanks to our incredible economic success, I will pay every adult American citizen a dividend of $5,000,&#8221; Trump said.<\/p>\n<p> He added that the only condition is that the money must be spent within the U.S. At the same time, the president did not explain what funds would finance the payments or how exactly such a program would work.<\/p>\n<p> Reuters estimates that such an initiative could cost about $1.35 trillion. It would likely require a congressional resolution to implement it.<\/p>\n<p> The promise came amid a tough race for Republicans in Congress.
