Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney have agreed on 7 new aid packages, 6 joint initiatives, and 3 documents on cooperation. The support covers defense, energy, reconstruction, assistance to veterans, and the return of Ukrainian children.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by the Office of the President.<\/p>\n

Ukraine and Canada will create a mechanism for the supply of drones within the Defence Drone Initiative Marketplace, modeled after the Brave1 platform. Also, Canada’s General Dynamics Mission Systems – Canada and Ukraine’s Green Tech Harvest have launched a partnership to jointly produce drones and related technologies.<\/p>\n

The countries will also develop intergovernmental cooperation in the field of joint production of drones, countermeasures, and ammunition.<\/p>\n

To strengthen defense, Canada will allocate $350 million to supply interceptor missiles for air defense systems as part of the JUMPSTART initiative. Another $23 million will be allocated to strengthen the capabilities of the Ukrainian security system.<\/p>\n

In the energy sector, Canada will provide nearly $435 million in loan guarantees through the EBRD. The funds will be used, in particular, to purchase gas for the winter and additional generators in case of electricity shortages.<\/p>\n

Another $10 million will be directed to the Fund for Supporting Ukraine’s Energy and Energy Infrastructure, and $2 million to the joint work program of the International Energy Agency to support the development of Ukraine’s energy resources.<\/p>\n

Canada will allocate $200 million in concessional loans through Export Development Canada for the recovery of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

A joint fund will be created with the participation of donors to implement the National Strategy for Ukrainian Veterans. Canada will also allocate more than $40 million for the recovery, rehabilitation, and adaptation of Ukrainian veterans to civilian life.<\/p>\n

Canada will impose sanctions against 8 individuals involved in the violation of the rights of Ukrainian children. In addition, as a co-chair of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, the country will allocate approximately $6 million to support their reintegration and return.<\/p>\n

The leaders also announced a joint initiative on critical minerals.<\/p>\n

Canada’s total assistance to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion has already exceeded $26 billion.<\/p>\n

On the eve, Canada expanded its sanctions list and added eight more Russian citizens to it.<\/a> Ottawa considers them to be involved in the illegal export of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation, their indoctrination and militarization.<\/p>\n
