At the same time, the crossing remains an important symbol of the occupation of Crimea.

Deputy Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Vadym Skibitsky, made this statement at the Yalta European Strategy (YES) conference. His words were quoted by the Kyiv Post.

According to a Ukrainian intelligence official, Russia currently routes most of its military supplies through the Rostov region, and then overland through the temporarily occupied territories of southern Ukraine. Meanwhile, Ukraine has already disrupted several other logistics routes through Crimea.

“Today, it is truly no longer such a strategic object for the Russian Federation,” Skibitsky noted.

At the same time, he said, the Crimean Bridge remains important for the Russian leadership from a political and symbolic point of view.

“For Russia, for Putin, the Crimean Bridge is a symbol of the occupation of Crimea,” the GUR representative emphasized.

Skibitsky also named another possible reason why the bridge might remain intact.

“This may be one of the ways for Russian occupiers to return home,” he said.

The Crimean Bridge has been repeatedly attacked since the full-scale invasion began. Skibitsky previously described it as a strategic facility through which Russian forces in southern Ukraine were supplied. However, he estimates that the crossing’s importance for military logistics has significantly diminished.

The GUR representative also noted that Western partners had previously feared a possible sharp escalation in the event of the destruction of the Crimean Bridge, particularly due to Russia’s threats to use nuclear weapons. Now, according to Skibitsky, the facility’s military significance is no longer what it once was.

Also follow “Pryamy” on Facebook , X , Telegram and Instagram.

The Crimean Bridge has now lost much of its military and strategic significance for Russia, as the occupiers increasingly use the land corridor through the captured territories of Ukraine.
