In Indonesia, the passenger ship Virgo Transport 8 capsized and sank in the Java Sea with 243 people on board. Rescuers found 108 people, 6 passengers died, and another 129 are missing.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The ship disappeared on September 13 during a voyage from Surabaya to Banjarmasin. According to rescuers, waves were up to 3 meters high at the time of the accident, and strong winds are making the search operation difficult.<\/p>\n

At least 622 rescuers, 17 vessels, 5 helicopters and planes have been involved in the search. Some of the vessels have already arrived at the scene of the accident, but rescuers cannot get inside the capsized and partially sunken vessel due to difficult weather conditions.<\/p>\n

“We will also bring in personnel with underwater rescue skills, but current conditions do not allow that,” said Mohammad Syafi, head of the National Search and Rescue Agency.<\/p>\n

The crash site is located approximately 150 km from the command center in Banjarmasin. The journey there takes about 5 hours in normal weather, but due to storms it can take up to 9 hours.<\/p>\n

As of September 14, none of the 129 missing had been found. Indonesian Transport Minister Dudi Purwagandi said the ship was designed to carry 500 passengers, so there was no overloading.<\/p>\n
