The center-left bloc is provisionally set to win 176 seats in the Riksdag, compared to 173 for the current government coalition and the Sweden Democrats.

This is evidenced by preliminary results published by SVT .

The Social Democrats received the most votes – 28.1%. The Moderates of the current Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson are in second place with 19.9%, and the Sweden Democrats are in third place with 17.6%.

Other parties overcome the 4 percent barrier: The Left Party – 8.2%, the Center Party – 7.1%, the Christian Democrats – 6.2%, the Green Party – 6.1% and the Liberals – 5.4%.

The preliminary distribution of seats leaves the power struggle extremely tight. The center-left parties led by the Social Democrats could win 176 seats in the 349-seat parliament, while the parties in the current government coalition, including the Sweden Democrats, could win 173.

The final result could still change after the counting of votes cast by post and by Swedish citizens abroad. With a minimal difference, even a few additional mandates could determine the future configuration of the government.

At the same time, it is important for Ukraine that the main Swedish parties generally maintain a pro-Ukrainian position , although they have differences on defense policy and other issues.

Parties’ attitudes towards Ukraine

Magdalena Andersson’s Social Democratic Party advocates continued support for Ukraine, increased pressure on Russia, and European unity. Andersson stated: “The Ukrainian cause is our cause,” emphasizing that Ukraine has the right to determine its own future.

Ulf Kristersson’s “moderates” also support military aid to Ukraine and a tough stance on Russia. Under Kristersson’s government, Sweden joined NATO, and support for Ukraine became one of the key directions of Swedish security policy.

The Sweden Democrats support Ukraine and Sweden’s membership in NATO, but their political agenda is largely focused on migration, internal security, and Swedish identity. At the same time, the party has a controversial history due to its far-right roots.

The Center Party takes a pro-Ukrainian position and supports European unity and assistance to Ukraine.

The Green Party advocates support for Ukraine and sanctions pressure on Russia.

The left-wing party also supports Ukraine, although its position on military policy is generally more critical than that of the center-right forces.

Christian Democrats support Ukraine and a tough approach towards Russia.

Liberals advocate supporting Ukraine and its European integration.

Thus, the possible formation of a new government in Sweden does not automatically mean a change in policy towards Ukraine. Both center-left and center-right forces generally advocate continued support for Kyiv and view Russia as a threat to European security.

Recall that the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), which opposes support for Ukraine and favors rapprochement with Russia, won the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt . At the same time, the party lacked several mandates for an independent majority in the local parliament.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

In Sweden, with 94% of votes counted in the parliamentary elections, the opposition forces led by Magdalena Andersson’s Social Democratic Party are leading.
