Polish Foreign Minister Rados\u0142aw Sikorski explained on September 16 why Warsaw insists on participating in peace talks to end the Russian-Ukrainian war. According to him, the results of the talks will directly affect Poland’s security.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Polish Foreign Minister stated<\/a> this in an interview with “European Truth”.<\/p>\n

Sikorski noted that Poland’s role in the peace process is not only due to its geographical location. The country shares a border with both Russia and Ukraine, and is also an important route for the delivery of Western aid to Kyiv.<\/p>\n

“Poland is the only country in Europe that borders both Russia and Ukraine. We also deliver 95% of all aid to Ukraine and ensure the security of the hub in Jasionka, without which you would not have this aid. Also, the results of the peace negotiations will directly affect Poland,” the official noted.<\/p>\n

Separately, the Polish Foreign Minister emphasized the country’s defense potential. He stated that Poland is among NATO’s leaders in defense spending and is an important economic player.<\/p>\n

“We spend $50 billion a year on direct defense needs. If you take into account the associated costs, then even more. We have more tanks and more combat-ready brigades than Germany, France and Great Britain combined. So, yes, we believe that we should be consulted,” Sikorsky said.<\/p>\n

Among the negotiation formats regarding Ukraine, Warsaw most supports the so-called “European Five” (E5), which includes countries of the southern, northern, and eastern directions.<\/p>\n

“We like the “E5″ format the most, which includes countries of the southern, northern, and eastern directions. The times when Western Europe independently determined the security of Eastern Europe should remain in history as a bad example,” Sikorsky emphasized.<\/p>\n

Sikorski’s statement came after Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani called for the expansion of the circle of European states involved in the peace talks. In particular, he proposed including Italy and Poland in the process.<\/p>\n

Tajani’s statement came against the backdrop of a visit to Kyiv by representatives of the Donald Trump administration, as well as security advisors to the leaders of France, Great Britain, and Germany \u2014 the so-called “Euro Troika.”<\/p>\n

At the same time, Poland has repeatedly emphasized the need to take into account the position of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe when discussing issues related to their security and the end of the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Earlier, it was reported that the head of the Presidential Office, Kirill Budanov, announced the intensification of the negotiation process to end the war in Ukraine.<\/a> According to him, Ukraine is looking for new approaches to resolving issues that remain unresolved.<\/p>\n
