Russia’s Syzran and Saratov refineries have halted oil processing after Ukrainian drone attacks. One of the plants could be out of service for at least a month.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> Reuters, citing industry sources.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Syzran refinery was shut down on Tuesday after a drone attack. According to sources, several facilities at the plant were damaged.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In particular, the strike damaged the main crude oil processing unit with a capacity of 17,100 tons per day. It accounts for about 71% of the plant’s total capacity.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Repairs may take at least a month.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

At the same time, the second unit, which provides another 29% of the Syzran Refinery’s capacity, was already under repair after a drone attack in July.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Saratov Refinery stopped oil refining on September 11, also after the drone attack.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The plant had previously been shut down on September 8 due to equipment damage and a fire after a drone strike. The company planned to resume operations on September 10-11, but it came under attack again.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In August, the Saratov refinery was also out of service for several weeks after a drone strike.<\/p>\n

Shutting down two plants at once could exacerbate Russia’s fuel problems. Moscow has already restricted exports of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on the night of September 15, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Syzran Oil Refinery<\/a> in the Samara Region of the Russian Federation and the Atlant Aero enterprise in Taganrog, which produces drones for the Russian army. Hits and fires were recorded at both facilities.<\/p>\n
