This could allow Russia to free up its forces and redeploy them to other areas of the front, including the Lyman direction in the Donetsk region.

This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

American analysts cite a source associated with the Russian military group “North”. At the same time, ISW emphasizes that it cannot confirm this information.

According to the source, the Russian military may leave some positions in the Sumy or Kharkiv directions, and their place will be taken by North Korean units. This way, Russia will be able to free up its forces for transfer to the Lyman tactical area.

The source also claims that individual North Korean officers have already been operating near the international border. They allegedly conducted reconnaissance and gained combat experience. North Korean military personnel have been stationed in the Russian rear in the Kursk region for a long time.

At the same time, ISW has not recorded any signs of the presence of North Korean military personnel on the territory of Ukraine. Therefore, at this time, we are only talking about a possible future deployment, not a confirmed fact. Analysts note that the appearance of North Korean military personnel in Ukraine would mean a further expansion of North Korean participation in the war.

Separately, a source reported a possible movement of Russian troops to the Sumy region. The Russian command allegedly plans to transfer two battalions of the 1st Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces to the village of Ryasne, southeast of Sumy. ISW previously recorded units of this regiment on various sections of the front in northern Ukraine.

At the same time, Russian troops continued offensive operations in the north of Sumy region on September 15 and 16, but were unable to advance.

By the way, approximately 25,000 North Koreans work in Russia, in particular, assembling drones that Russian troops use to attack Ukraine .
